SENDAIS Worker

Role:               Family Support Worker (Special Educational Needs Advice and Support Service)

Based:            North East – Hybrid working – Primarily home based with occasional work in schools and the community

Rate:               £13 – 15 per hour

Start Date:      ASAP

Duration:        Until the end of May 2022 (possibility of an extension)

Hours:             15 hours

 

Our client, a national and highly respected Children’s charity, is looking for a Support Worker to work with families with child(ren) with Special Educational Needs.

 

Your role will include promoting the service, raising awareness to the needs of children with SEN and their families and working with children and families to support them with their needs and advocate on their behalf.

 

Main duties include:

  • Supporting families with a child/ children with Special Educational Needs including those on the Autism Spectrum and those with ADHD
  • Working with children, young people and their families, on a one to one or group basis, using a variety of interventions, to identify needs and to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Working in partnership with parents/carers to empower them and to enable them to achieve better outcomes for their children
  • Linking in with colleges and schools in the area to promote the service and to virtually deliver programmes on what SENDAIS do and how they can support the child, their families/ carers and education providers
  • Working co-operatively with children’s services, health agencies and other community-based services, to provide the most effective service for children young people and families
  • Understand the views and wishes of the child and their parents/ carers and advocate on their behalf/ provide advice and guidance
  • Applying safeguarding and child protection procedures

 

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working with children and/ families with a child/ children with SEN
  • Experience of family support and of partnership working
  • Strong safeguarding and risk assessments skills and experience
  • A background in SENCO, SEN Teaching and/ or Children’s Rights would be beneficial
  • Enhanced DBS issued within the last 12 months and/ or registered on the DBS Update Service
