Role:               Leaving Care Support Worker

Based:            Peterborough

Rate:               £14 - 16 per hour, depending on experience

Start Date:      ASAP

Duration:        4 months ongoing (possibility of becoming a permanent opportunity)

Hours:             Full Time

 

Our client, one of the UK’s leading Children’s Charities, is looking to recruit 2 Support Workers to support and advocate on behalf of young people leaving care aged between 16 to 25.

 

You will be providing practical and emotional support to young people and supporting them into independence. You will be working with them to achieve their goal and promoting positive live choices.

 

Synopsis of duties:

  • Managing a caseload of children and young people including completing risk and needs, agreeing support and care pathway plans
  • Working with young people identify goals and supporting them to achieve their aspirations
  • Supported clients with both their practical and emotional needs including housing, benefits, income management, health, substance misuse, mental health and learning disabilities
  • Supporting clients with a range of needs including historic trauma (CSE, CSA and neglect), domestic abuse, offenders, substance misuse, those in higher education, mental health, unaccompanied asylum seekers and learning disabilities
  • Supporting clients with Education, Employment and Training including applying for colleges and universities, submitting CVs and finding appropriate training courses and qualifications
  • Helping clients to access services and advocating on their behalf with partner agencies and professionals
  • Using the Signs of Safety model to assess young people
  • Offering support and guidance with accommodation, health, EET, finances and independent skills

 

Essential Requirements:

 

  • Experience of working with children/ young people who are or have been a child in care
  • Experience of working with young people aged 16 -25, care leavers and/ or unaccompanied asylum seeking children
  • Able to communicate effectively with children and young people and have some knowledge and understanding of safeguarding
  • Able to accurately record and have a good standard of IT knowledge
  • Able to work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team
