Family Support Worker (Temp)

Role:                  Family Support Worker

Based:               Northwest London

Rate:                  £16 – 17.50 per hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Start Date:      June 2023

Duration:        9 months with the strong possibility of the role becoming permanent

Hours:             37 hours, Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm (flexi working available)

                        Hybrid working – 4 days in office/ 1 day from home

                        Part Time hours also available if requested

Our client, a national and respected Children’s Charity are looking to recruit a Family Support Worker to join their Family Support Service in Northwest London.

The services support vulnerable families with a range of needs including parenting, truancy, substance misuse, mental health, domestic abuse, housing, and income management.

Synopsis of duties:

  • Responsible for providing a triage and direct support service for families referred to the Family Well Being service – this will include complex risk and needs assessments, establishing support required, crisis and risk management and signposted families both internal and external services
  • Assessing the family as a whole and on a 121 individual basis and working closely with the family and partner agencies to identify risk and needs
  • Supporting families with children aged between 0-19 years with a range of needs and giving them opportunity to access a broad reach of holistic & community-based interventions
  • Carrying out assessments in the centre and in the family’s home
  • Supporting and providing initial advice and guidance to families affected by a range of issues including parental mental health and/ or substance misuse, domestic abuse, housing, finance and income management, asylum seekers and benefits
  • Supporting clients to complete housing and welfare benefit applications
  • Signposting clients to additional services and agencies including counselling, refuge, group programmes (including the Freedom Programme), housing, solicitors etc
  • Facilitating multi-agency working including working closely with the Police, Social Services, GPs, Schools and specialist charities
  • Supporting clients to access the community services and facilities

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience supporting vulnerable families and/ or children aged 0-19
  • Strong safeguarding and risk assessments skills and experience
  • Enhanced DBS issued within the last 12 months and/ or registered on the DBS Update Service
