Community Development Officer (Peterborough)

Rate:                           £25,000pa (rising to 27,500pa over the 5 year contract)

Start Date:                  ASAP – May 2025

Duration:                     Permanent

Hours:                         30 Hours (Primarily Monday to Friday with occasional weekend/ evening work)

 

Our client, a National Charity specialising in working with vulnerable children and families, is looking to recruit a Community Development Officer to engage families in Peterborough, bring residents together and promote community led initiatives and community & social cohesion.

This is a Hybrid working role working out of a Community Centre and covering the Welland and Dogsthorpe areas of Peterborough.

What will you be doing?

This role is part of a 5 year Community Led Development Project where you will focus on engaging residents and community members, supporting them to establish steering and community groups to agree on services, activities, events etc which would be beneficial to the local community and then helping them to arrange, promote and deliver them.

You will be supporting residents to develop and ensure delivery of a various programme of activities and will work to encourage residents to attend events at the Community Centre.

You will be working to empower local community members to play an active role in their community, encourage resident involvement in decision making and promote integration and cohesion within and between communities in Welland and Dogsthorpe.

You will be supporting local groups and organisations to initiate and develop services that enable the community to build their own capacity.

What are they looking for?

 

  • Experience of engaging people within the community, residents, within services and/ or at other events
  • Experience within community development would be highly beneficial
  • Strong communication and networking skills and the confidence and ability to speak to and engage member of the public (both 121 and at events)
  • Strong diary and time management skills
  • Must have a UK Driving Licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
