Domestic Abuse Advocate

Role:            Domestic Abuse Advocate
Location:     Birmingham
Hours:          Part-time, 21 hours per week (flexibility required including occasional evenings/weekends)
Salary:         £15,233 per annum (£25,380 FTE)
Start Date:   ASAP
Duration:     12-month fixed term contract

Our client is a well-established charity with a long-standing commitment to supporting women who are at risk of domestic abuse, homelessness, and exploitation. They are looking for a Part Time Domestic Abuse Advocate to work directly with women from BAME backgrounds, helping them access safe accommodation, rebuild confidence, and achieve long-term independence.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Provide one-to-one emotional and practical support to women experiencing domestic abuse
•    Deliver person-centred support and safety plans to promote recovery and secure long-term housing
•    Deliver culturally responsive support and signpost to appropriate services
•    Advocate on behalf of clients with housing providers, health and legal services, and support agencies
•    Provide advice on budgeting, debt, and financial management
•    Deliver and support access to internal and external workshops that build life skills and employment prospects
•    Maintain accurate and confidential client records on internal systems
•    Contribute to multi-agency working and liaise with external professionals
•    Represent the charity at community events and support local publicity campaigns

Requirements:
•    Experience supporting women affected by domestic abuse and/or homelessness
•    Strong understanding of the barriers faced by BAME women
•    Experience of working with women with multiple or complex needs, including housing instability
•    Confident in delivering advocacy and brokering multi-agency support
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•    Able to network effectively and maintain professional relationships with a range of agencies
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems
•    Ability to work sensitively and non-judgementally, within professional boundaries
•    Experience delivering workshops and/or group activities is desirable
•    DBS issued within the last 12 months or registered on the update service would be advantageous
•    Driving licence and access to a car is desirable but not essential
