Our client, a well-known domestic abuse charity, are looking to recruit a Refuge Worker to join their team.

 

The role will include providing ongoing support and advice to victims of domestic abuse in a refuge setting.

 

Synopsis of duties:

  • Provide ongoing, individualized support to residents based on assessments at admission and through regular review.
  • Welcome and orient new residents, completing paperwork and providing health and safety information.
  • Ensure access to emergency supplies (clothing, nappies, toiletries, food) for residents in need.
  • Support residents in understanding and adhering to their licence agreement.
  • Assist with local orientation, providing information about essential services (schools, GPs, housing offices, etc).
  • Accompany residents to appointments and support engagement with local services.
  • Provide emotional and reflective support using evidence-based approaches, individually or in groups.
  • Support residents in connecting with specialist services (mental health, substance misuse, etc).
  • Assist with benefit applications, budgeting, and debt management.
  • Help with housing applications, appointments, and advocate with housing providers.
  • Provide culturally sensitive support to residents from minority communities, including those affected by: Honour-based violence, Forced marriage, Immigration issues or No Recourse to Public Funds
  • Facilitate access to immigration advice and advocacy to ensure resident and child safety.
  • Support resettlement into permanent housing, including grant applications and sourcing furniture.
  • Distribute hardship funds, travel warrants, and other practical support as needed.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience working in supported accommodation with vulnerable client groups
  • Knowledge of domestic abuse and the needs of women and children affected by it
  • Must drive and have access to a vehicle
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS on the update service
