Refuge Manager
Role: Refuge Manager - Supported Housing (Women & Children)
Location: Buckinghamshire (exact location confidential)
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent or Permanent
Hours: 37 per week, 5 days – flexibility required, including some evening and on-call duties
Salary: £38,000 depending on experience
We are partnering with a respected charity to recruit a Refuge Manager to lead the day to day running of a busy, purpose led supported housing service for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
This is a pivotal leadership role, responsible for ensuring safe, compliant and high-quality refuge services. You will oversee a dedicated team of support workers, a child development worker and general support staff, ensuring a trauma informed, empowering and consistent approach for all residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all operational aspects of the refuge, ensuring smooth, safe and effective service delivery
- Provide line management, supervision, appraisals, team meetings and staff development
- Coordinate service delivery, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement
- Oversee safeguarding for children and vulnerable adults as the designated lead
- Manage the on-call rota and support out of hours emergency responses
- Ensure key working, risk assessments, safety planning and group work meet best practice standards
- Work closely with senior management, partner organisations and contractors
- Maintain health and safety standards, risk assessments and compliance across the buildings and service
- Support recruitment, induction and probation of new staff
- Facilitate resolution of issues between staff, residents or external partners
- Promote resident involvement, feedback and co production
- Support budgeting, rent collection and financial administration
- Provide reports and information for trustees, funders and external stakeholders
About You:
- Experience managing or supervising a supported accommodation, refuge or similar service
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and experience as a safeguarding lead or senior escalation point
- Skilled in staff leadership, supervision, rota management and service development
- Confident in managing buildings, health and safety, risk assessments and compliance
- Experience supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse is highly desirable
- Able to work collaboratively, calmly and professionally in fast paced environments
- Comfortable participating in an on call rota
