Qualified Social Worker - Young Carers

Location: Cumbria
Hours: 4 days per week
Contract: Temporary - 6 months
Salary/Rate: Negotiable, depending on experience and pay status
Working Pattern: Hybrid working available

Supporting Futures Consulting are recruiting on behalf of a well-respected charity for a Qualified Social Worker to support young carers and their families across Cumbria.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to provide specialist assessment, risk assessment and support to children, young people and young adult carers aged 5–25 who are affected by caring responsibilities within their families.

The successful candidate will have strong experience completing robust assessments, identifying and managing risk, safeguarding children and young people, and working collaboratively with families and multi-agency professionals.

About the Role

You will manage a caseload of young carers and their families, completing comprehensive assessments to understand their individual circumstances, caring responsibilities, strengths, needs and potential risks.

You will work closely with children, young people, parents and professionals to develop appropriate support plans and ensure young carers are receiving the right services to reduce inappropriate or excessive caring responsibilities.

As the service continues to develop, you will also play an important role in building effective relationships with schools, social care, health services, Family Hubs and community organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive assessments of young carers and their families
  • Undertake robust risk assessments and identify safeguarding concerns
  • Assess the impact of caring responsibilities on children's and young people's wellbeing, education, development and family life
  • Manage a caseload and provide appropriate interventions and support
  • Develop and review individualised support plans
  • Identify strengths, needs and protective factors within families
  • Work closely with children, young people and parents to identify appropriate outcomes
  • Make appropriate referrals to specialist and community services
  • Work collaboratively with social care, health, education and other partner agencies
  • Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings and professional discussions
  • Use effective multi-agency working and triangulation to inform assessments and decision-making
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records
  • Monitor and review risk, safeguarding concerns and outcomes
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed appropriately
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of young carers and their families
  • Contribute to the development of effective referral pathways and partnership working

What We're Looking For

We are particularly interested in candidates who have:

 

  • Previous experience working with children, young people and families
  • Strong experience completing assessments and identifying support needs
  • Experience undertaking risk assessments and safeguarding assessments
  • Good knowledge of child protection, safeguarding and relevant legislation
  • Experience managing complex or vulnerable cases
  • Strong understanding of the impact of caring responsibilities on children and young people
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience working within a multi-agency environment
  • Strong skills in professional judgement, analysis and triangulation of information
  • Excellent case management and record-keeping skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
