Hours:             Part Time (21 hours - Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)

Our client, a specialist Domestic Violence charity based in Essex is looking to recruit a Children and Families Support Worker

Synopsis of duties:

  • Supporting children and their mothers in a 14 bed refuge in Harlow
  • Carrying out 121 work and group sessions with children (aged 0 to 16) which will include work around understanding the impact of domestic abuse on the child, healthy relationships, lego and drawing therapy, play sessions and activity and safety and risk management sessions
  • Working with the mother in 121 and group sessions to support them with empowerment and self-confidence, parenting, child development and positive play, healthy relationships, impact of domestic abuse on the child and parenting etc
  • You will be supporting the mothers’ with practical needs relating to the child(ren) including liaising with Schools, CAMHS and Social Services, supporting with SEN issues, applications and benefits, accompanying to appointments and with custody and safeguarding issues
  • Working with children in an age appropriate manner which will including lego, drawing and art therapy (in conjunction with a qualified Art Therapist) and work around anger management, behaviour, healthy relationships (including CSE, friends and family, coercive control etc) etc
  • Organising activities (including messy play and outdoor activities) – just letting the children be kids!

Essential Requirements:

  • Have knowledge of the dynamics of domestic abuse and its impact on individuals and families and techniques to engage
  • Knowledge of the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy and the gendered nature of violence
  • Have an excellent understanding and working practice of undertaking risk assessments and understanding the nature of domestic and sexual violence
  • Have an good understanding of safeguarding and can demonstrate an ability to contribute towards a safer working culture.
  • DBS dated within the last 12 months or on the update service
