Our client, a specialist Domestic Violence charity based in the Black Country, is looking for an Youth Justice Worker to support youth females who offend, and are known to either the Youth Offending Service or West Midlands Police.
Synopsis of duties:
- Deliver evidence based one to one interventions, group work and advice in a variety of locations such as estates and Youth Offending Service Estates with an aim to deter young people from offending behavior.
- Ensure that all interventions delivered are age appropriate, child led to reduce risk and culturally sensitive to young people.
- Offer general awareness of healthy/unhealthy relationships, confidence & self-esteem, managing & understanding emotions, promoting resilience and managing challenges, and identifying and developing healthy coping strategies, in order to address the pathways to offending.
- Create a safe, age-appropriate space to work with young people, encouraging them to share their experiences, thoughts and feelings through peer support. Work will include sensitively challenging experiences and decision making and working to develop early identification of emerging issues, coping strategies, seeking help and knowledge of healthy relationships and support networks.
- To be a single point of contact (SPOC) for The Youth Offending Service and West Midlands Police, and provide advice, guidance and evidence based support assessing risk where required.
- Provide emotional and practical support and advocacy to young people with a holistic approach. Support and methodology should be specific/varied to meet the young person’s needs including risk assessment and management plans with a goal to reduce the risk level and increase safety.
- To make referrals and work together with other agencies and services to create the best outcomes for young people and, where appropriate, their families, including domestic violence and abuse support services, perpetrator programmes, drug and alcohol services and mental health and wellbeing services.
- To build effective relationships with stakeholders, using a multi-agency approach, working directly with all key agency partners to ensure that young people’s plans are coordinated and information is shared effectively and appropriately. This will include the preparation and presentation of reports and plans.
- Ensure that cases are sensitively managed, case management systems are accurately completed and risk assessments and support plans are in place and approved. In particular, ensuring that a clear safety and support plan has been created prior to school holidays and relevant referrals for support have been made.
- Develop and deliver training and awareness to a wide range of professionals working with young people on the impact of exploitation and abuse, and offending behaviour.
Essential requirements:
- GCSEs English and Mathematics – Grade C or above. Minimum NVQ Level 3 in relevant subject, preferably working with children.
- Experience of working with children/young people, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately
- Experience of handling a caseload
- Experience of using risk assessments and appropriate interventions tools to manage and identify risk
- Experience of preparing accurate and concise case notes and reports based upon fact and professional judgment for a variety of purposes including case conferences and/or formal proceedings
- Experience of responding in an emergency (personal or professional)
