Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours Flexible shift pattern for 7.5 hours per day over 7 days (negotiable) Support required for children out of school hours/holidays
Our client, a specialist Domestic Violence charity based in the Black Country is looking to recruit a Family Support Worker who will be based within their domestic abuse refuge accommodation as an integral part of the support offered to victims and children who have fled abuse. The Family Support Worker will raise awareness of the impact that domestic abuse has on the family and the challenges that are faced by adult victims in protecting their children from abuse
Synopsis of duties:
- Consult with the family/children using evidence based tools to risk assess and identify their needs.
- Develop effective packages of support tailored to meet the needs of the family in order to rebuild lives, confidence and independence.
- Use motivational interviewing and a solution focused approach to deliver evidence based tools and interventions, working directly with the mother and child, together or separately, to build and strengthen their bond.
- Use face to face and media platforms to develop and maintain positive relationships with children, young people and their families to enable them to engage.
- Advocate on behalf of the children, young people and their families, supporting them in their interactions with support services.
- Deliver family sessions and support children and parents to encourage positive attachment.
- Identify the need for therapeutic interventions with the children and where possible deliver them or make contact with relevant local services to meet the emotional needs of the children.
- Develop and encourage children and young people to become involved in communication and consultation mechanisms to ensure that the current and future service developments are reflective of the changing needs of children accessing refuge.
- Deliver evidence based parenting programmes in group and individual family settings as required. Please note that these may be delivered using different platforms and therefore encouraging participation and involvement is essential.
- Continually review the support needs of the mother/family and the educational needs of the children and young people, liaising with the appropriate agencies to ensure these needs are met.
- Develop good working relationships and liaise with outside agencies about the risks and needs of victims when needed; this will include joint working and referrals to colleagues or other external agencies where appropriate.
- To be an active member of multi-agency networks and meetings, such as child protection conferences and core groups, maintaining good communications with other professionals involved and advocacy for the victim.
- Ensure that any issues in relation to safeguarding children or vulnerable adults are brought to the immediate attention of the manager.
- Participate in fundraising and community development activities as scheduled throughout the year.
- To support with the facilitation of group work for adults and children around parenting and effects of abuse on children
- To facilitate in the delivery of educational and fun activities during non-term time
Essential Requirements:
- Minimum level 3 qualification in a related field.
- Good standard of general education, GCSEs English and Mathematics – Grade C or above.
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults and children, acknowledging safeguarding concerns and responding appropriately.
- Experience of building and maintaining partnerships with other agencies.
- Experience of working in a professional environment.
- Experiencing of working within a supportive setting for vulnerable people, providing direct support and a needs led service, undertaking risk and needs assessments and support planning, using a variety of intervention tools.
- Experience of managing complex casework, including issues such as child abuse, mental health, substance abuse, working with trauma in adults and children and crisis intervention.
- Experience of taking the lead in coordinating support for individuals/ families in a multi-agency setting.
